Orville G. Zemke age 83, of Goodhue died on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center in Wabasha where he resided for the past four days. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue with Pastor Martin Weigand officiating. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the church and on Sunday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Orville George Zemke was born on May 27, 1934 in Goodhue Township, Goodhue County, MN to Arthur and Jeanette (nee Mehrkens) Zemke. He grew up on the family farm, attended country school and several years at Goodhue High School. Orville worked with his parents on the farm. On November 23, 1955 he entered the U.S. Navy. After his honorable discharge on August 22, 1957 he returned to the Goodhue area and continued farming with his parents. On September 30, 1958 he married Joan M. Rusch at Grace Lutheran Church. Together they farmed the Zemke Family Farm. In 2000 they sold their dairy herd and switched to beef farming. Orville enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, gardening, mowing yard, feeding and watching the birds and riding around in his Ranger. Orville was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Orville is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Jeff (Terri) Zemke of Goodhue, Jerry (Linda) Zemke of Goodhue, Neil (Cathy) Larson of Tomball, TX and Sheila (Jerry) Swan of LeCenter; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; Ranger dog-Buddy and lap dog-Chole.
Orville was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessica Zemke; parents; brother, Arleigh Zemke and sister, Lois Allers.
