Paul Eugene Munnis

Paul E. Munnis, age 78, of Rochester, died Friday Nov. 24, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Hospitals - St. Mary's Campus in Rochester. Paul Eugene Munnis was born Oct. 18, 1939 to George and Anna (Grogan) Munnis in Malden, MA. He was raised in Reading, MA and graduated from Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Patterson, NJ. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for four years. In 1962 he married Mary Steffen in Reading. The couple had met in Duluth, MN where he was stationed during his service in the Air Force. The couple settled in upstate New York where Paul began his career as an Engineer for IBM, and they raised their children. He served as an elder in the Reformed Church of Upper Red Hook, NY. They later moved to Rochester where Paul continued to work for IBM. After his retirement Paul owned SmartWare Plus and worked as a planner for Treasure Island Casino in Red Wing, MN. He was an avid pilot, was licensed as a private, and commercial pilot, and was active in the Civil Air Patrol. He started the first Rochester Air Show. Paul was a Rotarian and both he and his wife were active in the Exchange Student Program. He enjoyed reading, writing, and publishing, and was the author of the Rochester Democrat.

Survivors include his wife Mary, daughters Cathryn (Kim) Enerson of Oronoco, MN; and Patricia Rojak of Rochester, his son Michael Munnis of Rochester, and his foster daughter Sarah (Keith) Hartwell of Hyde Park, NY; grandchildren Nicolas (Rachel) Enerson, Mitchell Enerson, Alissa Rojak, and Coleman Rojak, sisters Barbara (Robert) Hargraves of Alton Bay, NH; and Elaine (James) Doherty of Derry, NH; and his brother Edward Munnis of Reading, MA. His parents preceded him in death. The family would like to thank the care team at 6 Domatilla at St. Mary's and the staff at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island, MN.

A family memorial will be held at a later date at the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN. Memorials in Paul's name are suggested to the Pine Haven Care Center. Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
