Reinold L. "Babe" Nelson, age 61, of Rochester, died Saturday (Aug. 9, 2014) at Seasons Hospice in Rochester from lung cancer.
Reinold Lee Nelson was born July 19, 1953 in Dodge Center, MN to Robert and Beth (Abel) Nelson. He was raised in the Hayfield and Dodge Center area. He graduated from Hayfield high school in 1971. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army and attended Rochester Vocational Tech School. He married Terri Wood in 1977. They were married for 27 years and were later divorced. He worked for McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing for over 25 years as one of their first employees. He enjoyed fishing, welding, doing mechanical work, doing handyman and home remodeling work, and spending time with his children and family.
Survivors include his 3 children: Stephen, Shawn, and Paige all from Byron. He is survived by 5 brothers: Robert (Mary) Lyle, MN; Ralph, Colorado Springs, CO; Rodney (Linda), Portland, TN; Roger (Jacque), Sargent, MN; Russell (Deb) Brownsdale, MN. He is survived by 3 sisters: Sharon Wussow, Rochester, MN; Carol Kmiecik (James), St. Paul, MN; Barbara Nelson, Rochester, MN. He is survived by 3 aunts: Florence Nelson, Elsie Abel, and Marilyn (Richard) Houdek. He is survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Krista Lynn Dahley, parents, and four brothers.
A visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel. The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Byron United Methodist Church with Rev. Beth Perez officiating.
Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel, and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
