Robert D. Kolbo

April 28, 1928 — May 5, 2017

Robert Dennis Kolbo, age 89 of Zumbrota passed peacefully in his sleep May 5, 2017 at the Zumbrota Care Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel with Pastor Norm Ruthenbeck officiating. A private family burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery with military honors provided by Stary-Yerka VFW Post #5727 of Zumbrota. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Robert Dennis "Bobby" Kolbo was born to Herman and Otelia on April 28, 1928 in Kenmare, North Dakota. Bob attended college at Minot State where he obtained a BS in Mathematics. He later obtained a Master's Degree from Winona State University. Bob met Beverly Bailey while they attended Minot State. Bob and Beverly were married in December 4, 1948 and together they raised four children. Bob and Beverly resided in rural Zumbrota from 1959 to present.

Bob served his country his entire professional life. First as full time in
the U.S. Army as a Firefighter from 1948-50, Army Reserves from 1950-59 and the Minnesota Air National Guard from 1959-1987.

Bob was a High School Math teacher for his entire professional career. He served at Lignite, North Dakota (1951-52), Ulen, Minnesota (1952-56) and Zumbrota, Minnesota (1956-1987). Bob was also the Athletic Director at Zumbrota from 1966-88 and coached the football, basketball and golf teams for many years. Bob coached many successful teams including the 1961football team which finished with a perfect record.

Bob was very active in civic and church, serving as President of the Commerce Club, United Lutheran Church and the Zumbrota Golf Club. Bob was an avid golfer and enjoyed almost daily rounds after retirement.

Bob is survived by his children, Leslie McDonald of Phoenix, AZ, Robert Craig (Linda) Kolbo of Cheyenne, WY, the Rev. Mark (Lisa) Kolbo of Crary, N.D. and Paul (Sarah) Kolbo of Bloomington; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Bob will now join Beverly in Heaven. Bob was the last surviving sibling and will be joining brothers Henry and Donald and sisters, Inez, Melvina, Helen, Mabel, Martha and Dorothy.
Memorials are suggested to the Zumbrota Care Center.
