Shirley M. Schlichting

Shirley Mae Schlichting, age 82 of Diamond Bluff, Wisconsin, died Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Ellsworth Health Care Center. She was born on September 30, 1931, in Diamond Bluff, to Earl and Gladys (Peterson) Kask. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1948. Shirley was united in marriage to Raymond Schlichting on June 24, 1955 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing and they lived in Diamond Bluff. She worked at the Red Wing Shoe Co. for over 30 years until her retirement. Ray died on June 24, 1994. Shirley was a member of the Red Wing Hospital Auxiliary, the Leo C. Peterson American Legion #54 Auxiliary and St. John's Lutheran Church. She was a NASCAR fanatic and especially enjoyed her time with Ray at Lake Wapogasset. For the past three years, Shirley helped tend to the garden at the Ellsworth Health Care Center.
Shirley is survived by her son, Gary (Ann) Schlichting of Diamond Bluff, WI; two grandchildren, Chad (Stephanie) Schlichting of San Antonio, TX and Melissa Schlichting of Lake City; eight great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, Jody (Abbie) Testaberg of River Falls, WI and Debra (Matt) Prescott of Valley Center, CA; and four step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; brother, Clyde Kask; sister, Terry Hove and a grandson, Brent Schlichting.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Peter Sternberg officiating. Burial will be at Diamond Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
