Steven E Mickelson

Steven Edward Mickelson, 70, of Spring Hill, Florida, formerly of Red Wing, died Thursday, June 14, 2018, at the Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, Florida. He was born on August 20, 1947, in Cannon Falls to Eugene and Phyllis (Munson) Mickelson. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1965. He was very proud to serve his country receiving the rank of Sargent in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam Era serving from 1965-1969. While serving he received three Purple Hearts and several Marksmanship metals. Following his discharge, he returned to Red Wing. In 1970 he married Janice Steffenhagen and they later divorced. He worked three years for the Red Wing Police Department and then at St. John's Hospital in the maintenance department. In 1977, he married Kathy (Kock) Church and they later divorced. He moved to Watertown, South Dakota and for the past 10 years has resided in Spring Hill, Florida. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW Posts in the communities where he lived and during his law enforcement years he would compete in pistol shooting competitions, receiving many marksman awards and trophies. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing.
Steven is survived by two daughters, Lindsay (Dustin) Wood of Friendswood, Texas and Stephanie (Andrew) Hoeft of Red Wing; four grandchildren, Evan, Kamrynn, Brynne and Livienne; three brothers, David (Donna) Mickelson of Spring Hill, FL, Randall (Judi) Mickelson of Red Wing and Jon (Sue) Mickelson of Clarks Grove, MN; one sister, Catherine (Ron) Goggin of Red Wing along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
