Steven Craig Yockey, 66, of Red Wing, died on Monday, April 25, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family, friends and loyal canine companion, Ginger. He was born October 27, 1949 in Waterloo, Iowa to Bert and Lela (Edwards) Yockey. In 1973, he married Terry Brown and in 1977 the couple moved to Red Wing where Steve began working for I.D.S. Financial Services. Together, they raised two children, Angela Grace and Jason Richard. Steve was a Hall of Fame Advisor for what eventually became Ameriprise Financial Services. He semi-retired in 2015 and worked part-time with his son Jason. He enjoyed talking with people and will be remembered for his many stories of growing up in Waterloo. Growing up, his children knew most of his stories by heart and at bedtime would ask specifically for favorites including, "Tell the Todd-in-the-Treehouse-Story Dad!" Steve enjoyed travelling, golf (he had four hole-in-ones!), and collecting muscle cars. He restored the rally green 1968 Z-28 Camaro that he had just out of high school back to its former glory and he would spend hours tinkering with his "toys" out in the garage. Together, Steve and Terry travelled all over the world, but were always happy to get back to their home and their family and friends in Minnesota.
He is survived by his wife, Terry; daughter and son, Angela (Dan) Gustafson and Jason (Indeah) Yockey; four grandchildren, brother Randy Yockey of Waterloo; sister, Laurie Venter of Brainerd, brothers-in-law Chris Brown of Red Wing and Randy Brown of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be from 4- 7 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing. The family would like to thank Mayo Clinic, especially Dr. Suzanne Hayman. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Mayo Clinic Cancer Research or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
