Verna June Erickson was born on March 24, 1924, the first child of Arthur and Ida Regina (Gronseth) Erickson. Growing up on the family farm with five younger sisters and one brother, she was relied upon by her parents, assisting them both in the household and with the farm. Verna was confirmed at Stordahl Lutheran Church and graduated from Wanamingo High School. Arthur Berg, a childhood friend who often visited the Erickson farm for play and work, became her husband on August 5, 1944. They lived in the Wanamingo area, were active members of Lands Lutheran Church and raised a family of two boys.
Arthur and Verna were completely dedicated to their family. Strawberry and raspberry jam, fresh baked bread, rich Guernsey milk, sweet corn, numerous garden vegetables, pickles, fruit, beef and pork; all raised, canned, or frozen on the farm; graced the dinner table year around. Love was evident in every family activity and Verna was the heart of the family.
Verna is survived by two sons, Gene (Eileen Soskin) Berg of Whidbey Island, WA, and Stuart (Pamela) Berg of Apple Valley, MN; four sisters, Marlys Jacobson, Mary McLagan, and Evelyn (Cec) Refsland all of Rochester and Karen Harding of Madison, AL; three loving grandchildren, Kristin, Lars and Erick; four great-grandchildren, Annika, Kari, Elsa and Miles.
Verna was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Arthur on September 17, 2005; brother, Lenus Erickson and sister, Aloise Vogan.
The family wishes to extend deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff at Pine Haven Care Center and the compassionate employees of Heartland Hospice.
