William Charles Jahns

William "Bill" Charles Jahns, age 89, of Lake City passed away at the Red Wing Health Care Center on Wednesday, June 24, 2015. Bill was born on January 1, 1926 in Spring Valley, MN to Milton and Amanda (Rudlong) Jahns. He grew up in Spring Valley area. He joined the Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Bill married Shirley Theiss on April 10, 1948 in Wykoff, MN. They lived in Spring Valley until 1966 when they moved to Lake City. Bill worked as an artificial inseminator until his retirement. He then worked as a custodian at Bluff View Elementary in Lake City. Bill was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City, American Legion Post #110, and a life member of the VFW Post #8729, He loved spending time with his family, bowling, and working with his horses.
Bill is survived by his two sons, Scott (Christine) of Hudson, WI and Dana of Rochester; daughter, Nancy (Tom) Conway of Red Wing; seven grandchildren, Angie, Beth, Shannon, Jessica, Julie, Parker, and Cameron; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents; two sisters, Marcella Merkel and Shirley Rollie; and two brothers, Roger and Robert Jahns.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel - Lake City with Reverend Dennis Valleau officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery with military honors provided by the Lake City VFW Post #8729 and American Legion Post #110. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
