Zella Blanche Boutelle

December 28, 1915 — August 19, 2017

Zella Boutelle, age 101, died Saturday August 19, 2017 at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester. Zella Blanche Schliem was born December 28, 1915 in Roberts County, South Dakota to John Christian and Clara Louise (Minder) Schliem. She attended rural school and graduated from Wilmot Public School in 1933. She moved to Rochester, MN in 1935 and was employed at Colonial Hospital. On June 1, 1941, she married Clifford Boutelle in Wilmot, SD. During World War II she worked at Sioux Steel in Sioux Falls, SD to support the war effort. She was employed at John Marshall High School for many years until retiring in December, 1980.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ruth's Circle and Rochester Senior Citizens. Was a Girl Scout leader for many years, Den Mother for Cub Scouts, Volunteer for Rochester Food Bank, Salvation Army and Rochester Senior Citizens.

She is survived by four daughters, Sandra (Bruce) Schaefer, Sunrise Beach, MO; Bonnie (Lee) Lohmann, Red Wing, MN; Renee (Scott) Richter, Pine Island, MN and Marcia (Bradley) Sutton, Rochester, MN. Two sons, Larry Boutelle, Kalamazoo, MI and Rex (Marilyn) Boutelle, St. Paul, MN; 13 grandchildren, Carla Shelby, Chris Schaefer, Nathaniel Boutelle, Chad Lindeen, Jodie Lindeen, Leah Adams, Mandy Mahn, Nicole Kujath, Travis Richter, Kelly Herbst, Tracy Sutton, Tony Boutelle, and Tim Boutelle. 17 great-grand children, Alex, Adam, Samantha, Finn, Sam, Molly, Kipp, Toby, Jaxon, Wallis, Markayla, Kyler, Aiden, Ian, Shawn, Jocelyn and Evelyn. Three great-great grandchildren, Aiden, Jackson and Robbie.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford on December 22, 1970, parents, granddaughter Allison, and five siblings.

A memorial service will be at First Presbyterian Church, 512 Third Street SW, Rochester, MN on Saturday, August 26th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. T.J. Parlette officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, prefer memorials to Samaritan Bethany Volunteers or Salvation Army.
