Alfred D. Quam age 88, of Wanamingo passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at his home in Wanamingo surrounded by family. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Dale Lutheran Church Cemetery with Pastor Christopher Culuris officiating. Military Honors will be provided by Conrad Osthum VFW Post #141 of Kenyon.
Alfred Darrell Quam was born on April 29, 1929 in Cherry Grove Township, Goodhue County, MN to Alfred and Mildred (Myran) Quam. He grew up on the farm, attended country school and graduated Kenyon High School in 1947. After graduation Alfred worked for Myran's Welding and helped on the farm until he entered the U.S. Army on October 13, 1953. He served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on October 12, 1955. After his discharge he returned to rural Kenyon, married Edna M. Grimm on December 10, 1955 at Dale Lutheran Church and started working as a milk hauler. After a couple of years of hauling milk, Alfred started farming and farmed for 27 years. Alfred began working for the City of Kenyon in 1985 as a street maintenance employee until he retired in 1997. After his retirement he worked part-time for Holden Township, plowing snow and grading roads. Alfred was a lifetime member of Dale Lutheran Church, a life member of Conrad Osthum VFW Post #141 and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Lodge #1460 in Faribault. In his free time, Alfred enjoyed dancing with his wife, listening to music, fixing cars, going to auctions and garage sales and most importantly spending time with family.
Alfred is survived by his wife Edna; son, Darrell (Luann) Quam; daughter, Brenda (Jim) Raasch; grandchildren, Dustin (Johanna) Quam, Leah Quam, Jessica Raasch and Angela Raasch; great-grandchildren, Carter, Tegan, Maddox, Finley and Rowyn Quam; siblings, Donna (James) Haugen, Frank (Audrey) Quam, Paul Quam, John (Brigit) Quam, Gary (Judy) Quam, Sandra (Ken) Harris, Dan (Shari) Quam, Dale (Pam) Quam and Christy (Gary) Pederson; brothers-in-law, Luke Broulik and Jim Quaale and sister-in-law, Erna Quam.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Myron Quam and sisters, Reone Broulik, Alice Quaale and sister-in-law, Paula Quam.
