Allan E. Nilson

June 15, 1948 — June 5, 2019

Allan Edward Nilson, 70, of Zumbrota, died Wednesday June 5, 2019, peacefully in his home surrounded by family and friends.

Allan was born in Evanston, IL, to parents Agda and George Nilson. On May 25, 1974, he married the love of his life, Jaycee. They moved to Minnesota in 1976 where Allan fulfilled a lifelong ambition when he designed and built their Zumbrota home. Allan worked in research at the Mayo Clinic for over 30 years. The work he did helped to advance health care and treatments that have helped save lives around the world.

There were no limits on the time and love Allan would give to his family and friends. He volunteered his time and skills at United Redeemer Lutheran Church, helping to keep the church in terrific repair. His last project for the church was to help design a new playground. Allan served on the Zumbrota Area Arts council where he designed and built sets and ran the projection equipment and concessions. Even though he wasn't an actor, Allan loved being part of the shows. He also served on the Zumbrota Library board and on the SELCO board as a member and president.

Allan is going to be sorely missed by his family, friends and community. He was a man of few words and never sought the spotlight, but his impact has been felt by many.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline (Jaycee), his daughters Jennifer Nilson (Jon Erb) of Arlington, VA; Teresa Connolly, (Sean) of Broomfield, CO; two grandchildren, Weston and Anara Connolly; brother Roy Nilson (Donna Levy) of Rockport, TX; niece Diane Truxillo of CA; nephew David Nilson, of CA; and sister-in-law Katherine Smithyman (Mike) of Woodstock, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Visitation will be at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota on Tuesday June 11, 2019 from 4pm to 7pm and on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
