Arlene "Goody" Schimek of Rochester, Minnesota passed away Tuesday May 28, 2019 at her home.
She was born September 22, 1930 in Frazee, Minnesota to Carl and Hulda Stoike. She married Richard Schimek on February 18, 1950 in Slayton. Mr. and Mrs. Schimek farmed their entire lives in the Morris, Albert Lea, Spring Valley, and eventually settling in the Rock Dell, Minnesota area. They retired in 1993. Arlene and Richard made their retirement home in Apache Junction, Arizona for thirteen years. They then returned to their home state of Minnesota and settled in Rochester.
Arlene enjoyed taking care of her family as a housewife. Her family was her first priority. She had many talents, both in and out of the house, from cooking to driving a truck. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, puzzles, gardening, and bird watching, Both Arlene and Richard enjoyed motor home traveling, snowmobiling, and card parties with neighbors.
Arlene was a devout Catholic, and always attended worship services. Sunday get-togethers with relatives and friends were common. She would volunteer at her local church to help.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Richard on December 11, 2018. She was also preceded by her parents, and two sisters, Lorraine Glemmen and Clara Schimek. She is survived by her children, Diane Bussman, Carol Schimek, Raymond (Barb) Schimek, Harold Schimek, Mary (Mark) Nelson, Steven Schimek, Karen (Ron) Yngsdal, Debbie (Joe) Golberg, Roger (Sherry) Schimek, Bonnie (Jim) Youngren, Tim Schimek, Tracy (Dan) Womeldorff, Robert Schimek, Brenda Schimek, Jill (Mike) Hinni, and Renee Bell; 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Seasons Hospice for their kind, compassionate care and support.
A celebration of her life and private service is being planned.
