Arnold Albert Peters age 89 of Lake City passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 at Fairview Southdale Hospital.
Arnold was born July 6, 1928 in Lake City to Margaretta (Tomforde) Peters and John Christian Peters who immigrated from Germany.
Arnold attended Washington School. Graduated from St. John's Lutheran School and Lincoln High School. He served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at Ft. Carson, near Colorado Springs, CO. It was here that he met Margaret JoAnn Thomas while roller-skating. They were married in Colorado Springs on December 14, 1952.
They settled in Lake City after his discharge, where he continued to work with his father in the construction business. They built many barns in the Lake City area. He then took over his dad's business building many homes & farm buildings in Lake City and the neighboring rural area. He talked carpentry to the end. Thoughout his life he lived in four different homes in the 800 block of North Oak Street.
He was a life long member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he was Baptized and confirmed. He enjoyed ushering and worked on many building projects for the church. Throughout his life he enjoyed leather-tooling, iceboating, fishing, traveling and tinkering in the family shop. He enjoyed the small children on the job sites and his own grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife JoAnn; two daughters and son, Diane Burfeind, Dan (Theresa) Peters and Anita Peters; 6 grandchildren, Jeff, Jen, Ryan, Joe, Becca and Ben, 3 great grandchildren; two brothers, Louis (Ruth) Peters,FL, Walter (Patricia) Peters, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Hans and John Peters, a sister Martha Wenger.
A Funeral Service will be Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City, with Rev. Stephen Kurtzahn officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church.
