Caroline Kohrs

June 12, 1925 — September 18, 2019

Caroline Anna "Carrie" Kohrs, 94 of Lake City, passed away on September 18, 2019 at the Mayo Clinic Lake City Hospital..
Caroline was born shortly before midnight on Thursday, June 12, 1925. Her parents were Herman and Emma (Siebrandt) Hellwinckel. They lived on a farm just outside of Edgerton, MN. Carrie was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Edgerton. She graduated from Edgerton High School in 1943 and from Bethany College in Mankato in 1945. Following college, she came to teach at St. Peter Lutheran School in rural Goodhue (Belvidere). She married Reynold Kohrs on September 6, 1947 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Pipestone. They farmed the Kohrs home farm near Lake City. She was a faithful farm wife and mother, tending the home, garden and helped with farm chores. They were always active members of St. Peter, serving the Gospel in a number of leadership and servant roles. Following Reynold's stroke in 1989, they moved into Lake City. Here they were busy with coffee, cards and activities with a large circle of friends and neighbors. Reynold died in 2010 and she continued to live in her home on 10th Street.
Carrie is survived by three sons: Dale and his wife, Shari, of Lake City, Duane and his wife, Nancy, on the home farm in rural Lake City, and Paul and his wife, Linda, of Lynden, Washington. She is survived by 8 grandsons (Tim, Steve, John, Mike, Craig, Ross, Brent and Brian Kohrs) and two grand-daughters (Amy Alkire and Shelly Bargen). She is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren, by her sister, Erma Esch of Caledonia and her sister-in-law, Darlene Schmidt (Fred) of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother, Melvin Hellwinckel, and a sister, Arlene VanScharrel.
A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 21, 2019, at St. Peter Belvidere Lutheran Church in Goodhue with Reverend Steven Frentz officiating. Burial will take place at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4p to 7p at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson - Peterson Chapel in Lake City. Our mother was concerned that all should hear the Good News of Jesus. Should you wish to memorialize her, please consider a donation to an organization that works to spread the Gospel. She supported her church, The Lutheran Hour and Time of Grace Ministries.
