Charlene Ann Brunkow, 85, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born February 2, 1934 in Waterville, Wisconsin, Pepin County, to Charles and Inez (Burnette) Sylvester. She grew up in Arkansaw, Wisconsin before moving to Red Wing. She married Vernon Irish and the couple later divorced. She married Grover "Bud" Brunkow. She worked for the Red Wing Shoe Company for over 40 years and was an active member of Hiawatha Valley Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, and watching hummingbirds.
She is survived by her children; Cathy (Don) Schumacher of Red Wing, Starr (Frank) Hanson of Red Wing, Candi (Peter) Budish of Andover, Renee (Tony) Hugo of Marinette, Wisconsin, and Duane Brunkow of Richmond, Minnesota; 3 grandsons, 7 granddaughters, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter; brother, James (Marcy) Sylvester of Missoula, Montana; sisters, Mickey (Bill) Peterson of Red Wing and Joan (Jim) Woolrage of Racine, Wisconsin.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud; daughter, Marilyn Hanson; sister, Doris Christianson.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Hiawatha Valley Baptist Church with Reverend Chuck Friemel officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the church or Mayo Red Wing Hospice. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
