Charles Leroy Goplen

Charles L. Goplen age 68, of Zumbrota passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at his home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 11:00 am at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastors David Krinke and Tim Graham co-officiating. The visitation will be on Friday, April 26 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and for one hour prior to the visit on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Charles Leroy Goplen was born on September 27, 1950 in Red Wing to Melroy and Berdella (Flaaen) Goplen. He was raised in rural Zumbrota and graduated from Pine Island High School in 1968. Charlie then attended Vo Tech School in Winona for auto mechanics. After school he worked at Universal Ford in Rochester. On August 31, 1974 he married Patricia Carlson at Lands Lutheran Church. Charlie worked at Bob Seely Ford in Zumbrota for many years until he took over the family farm in 1977. He started at DFA in 2000, the same year he sold his dairy cows. Charlie was still farming his 153 acres and working at DFA.
Charlie enjoyed driving his mustangs, taking trips to Kansas, carpentry, farming, being outdoors and spending time with family.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Pat; two sons, Brian (Kristy) of Cannon Falls, and Brent (Vikki) Goplen of Zumbrota; three grandchildren, Gunnar, Alyssa, and Bayley; four great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Aubree, Maddic, and Lyrix; sister, Phyllis (Jim) Maxwell; nieces and nephews, Tim (Monicaa), Jeff (Tara), Mark (Pimm), Theresa (Jamie), Tony, Andrea (Cory), Arminta, Scott, Andrew, Jessica (Seth), Kristine (Michael), and Matt.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers due to allergies. Memorials are preferred to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation - 26 Broadway, 14th Floor - New York, NY 10004 or American Heart Association - 7272 Greenville Ave. - Dallas, TX 75231.
