Daniel K. Gronvall

Daniel Karl Gronvall, 70, of Red Wing, died unexpectedly on Saturday, September 8, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born on July 24, 1948 in Red Wing to Karl V. and Beatrice (Borman) Gronvall. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1966 and attended Mankato State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography. Dan served in the United States' Army during the Vietnam War. After the War, he received a Master's Degree from the University of Wyoming in Physical Education, before moving back to Minnesota. On June 12, 1976, Dan was united in marriage to Susan Loe in Cottonwood, MN, and they began making their home in Red Wing. Dan spent most of his career, 31 years, in the U.S. Postal Service. He worked at the Red Wing and Lake City offices before serving as Postmaster in Randolph, MN. He then transferred to Welch where he served 9 years as Postmaster up until his retirement in 2014. Dan enjoyed studying the Bible, mountain biking, golfing, woodworking, painting, and loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandsons. He was a member of First Covenant Church, their Men's Bible Study group, and the Red Wing Sportsman's Club.
Dan is survived by his wife, Susan; three sons, Karl (Kimberly) of Goodhue, Joel (Christine) of La Crosse, WI, and Paul (Kate) of Inver Grove Heights; four grandsons, Vernon, Walton, Edwin, and Soren; one brother, Kalmar Gronvall; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary Timmers.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at First Covenant Church with Reverend Marc Eix officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 and one hour prior to the service, all at the church. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to First Covenant Church Building Fund. Arrangements handled by Mahn Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
