Daniel John Shafland

Daniel John Shafland, 80, of Red Wing, died on Thursday, December 26, 2019, at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Red Wing, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in St. Cloud on January 19, 1939 to Sanford and Agnes (Mellum) Shafland. He graduated from Ketchikan High School in Alaska in 1957. He attended Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, and was part of the first graduating class at the University in 1961. On January 17, 1970, Daniel was united in marriage to Jane Frahm in Davenport, Iowa. They lived in Davenport, Thief River Falls, and moved to Red Wing in 2003 after his retirement. For many years, he was a lab supervisor. He was a member of United Lutheran Church, Kiwanis, and the Silvertones. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, cooking, sports - especially the Vikings, traveling, cruises, trips to Europe, his dogs, but most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jane; three children, Jeff (Toni) Shafland of Shakopee, Heidi Shafland, and Heather Shafland both of Eden Prairie; three grandchildren, Shawn Carter, Logan and Hunter Shafland. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020, at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Justin Boeding officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
