DARLENE CAROL (JERVISS) ENDERSON

Monday, October 12, 1931 -

Darlene joined this wonderful world on the family farm in Preston, MN, as the oldest daughter of Charles Edward Sr, and Naida Carol (Winch) Jerviss. She was followed by sister Dorothy, and brothers Charles Edward Jr, Thomas, and Stanley. In 1949, Darlene was "found worthy in character and citizenship" and graduated from Rochester Senior High School.

While working at the E.A.Knowlton Department Store, Darlene met and married Bert Roger Enderson on December 15, 1949, and together they shared 49 years until Bert's death on February 8, 2000. Darlene and Bert began their life together in Rochester, and after spending 1968-1972 in Boca Raton, FL, returned to spend their remaining years in Rochester. Their family started in 1956 with the birth of their daughter, Cindy, and continued with the birth of their son, Craig, in 1959. Together they enjoyed raising their family, dancing with the Swirlettes, creating the Archery Service Center, shooting with the Rochester Archery Club, playing cards with neighbors, taking Sunday afternoon drives, and traveling. Darlene served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She was a stay-at-home mom until her kids were in school. Darlene's varied jobs included clerk at E.A.Knowlton Department Store, bookkeeper at M.C.Lawler Department Store, salesperson and seamstress extraordinaire at a local sewing shop in Lighthouse Point, Florida, and administrative assistant at IBM. Following her retirement from IBM in 1987, she and Bert continued their travels, enjoyed their grandchildren, and Darlene helped Bert with his Music Plus business.

The Rochester Duplicate Bridge Club was Darlene's second family. She played several times weekly and served in several leadership roles with the Club. As a member of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), she attended many tournaments and accumulated 1182.25 Masterpoints. Special thanks to her many past fellow bridge players and partners, with extra special thanks to Joyce Lewis, Greg Caucutt, Genny Rice, and Sue Greenberg.

Darlene loved being with her grandchildren, playing family games (her favorite saying being "bite me"), and baking with her granddaughter, Michelle, and those traditions continue. She loved drinking her Miller Lite, and we'll definitely carry on that tradition (ok, some of us will...). Mostly, she loved life and sunshine; we're on that one too!

Carrying on Darlene's legacy are daughter Cindy and Rich Macrafic (Colin and Stephanie Macrafic, Michelle and Kevin Stepka, Brandon and Katie Macrafic, and Heather and Paul Polivka) and son Craig Enderson (Alex Enderson). Also surviving are five great-grandchildren; brother Ed Jerviss; many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends; along with special life-long friend Faith Collins of Toronto, Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bert, sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Richard Gustine, brothers Stan and Tom Jerviss, sister-in-law Mary Jerviss, and granddaughter Melissa Schaefer.

Heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staffs of Visiting Angels and Arbor Terrace/Samaritan Bethany for always being there with compassion and cheerful smiles and hugs, as well as the incredible staff of Seasons Hospice for ensuring her final month was peaceful and comfortable. Thank you also to Darlene's physician of the past "50 years," Gregory Hanson, MD, of Mayo Clinic. In her always giving style, Darlene has donated her body to Mayo Clinic Anatomical Services for the purpose of medical education and research.

In true Darlene fashion, and as she requested, we will joyfully celebrate her life (as we did with her on August 16, 2017) and bid our final farewell to her on Saturday, March 9, 2-4pm, Whistle Binkies Pub North. Please join us to share your wonderful memories of Darlene, a life well lived and well loved.
