A memorial service for Debi McWaters will be held Wednesday January 16th at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo. The Rev. Chris Culuris will officiate. Burial of the urn will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Mrs. McWaters, 63, of Wanamingo, died Friday January 11, 2019 at Kenyon Sunset Home in Kenyon. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel, in Zumbrota. The visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church at Wednesday.
Debra Kay Wallaker was born July 14, 1955 in Zumbrota, the daughter of Robert and Geraldine Wallaker. She was a graduate of Wanamingo High School with the class of 1973. She attended college, studying fashion merchandise, and worked a couple of years at Montgomery Ward in Rochester. She then worked for forty years at Maple Island Creamery. On June 23, 1984 she married George McWaters in Zumbrota. She loved her grandkids, loved camping, and was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed growing flowers in her garden, and she also had a particular fondness for the color purple. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo, and the VFW Auxiliary in Zumbrota.
She is survived by her husband George McWaters of Wanamingo; a daughter, Sara (Cory) Benda of Goodhue; stepsons, Chad (Alisha) McWaters of Zumbrota, and Matthew (Karoline) McWaters of Wanamingo; a stepdaughter, Calie (Josh) Schaefer of Wanamingo; ten grandchildren, Taylor, Morgyn, Griffin, Madee, Lydia, Tara, Connor, Andrew, Christopher, and Grace. Also surviving are her mother Geraldine Wallaker of Wanamingo; mother-in-law Lucille McWaters of Zumbrota; brothers, Jerry (Linda) Wallaker of Wanamingo, and Steve (Pam Sawyer) Wallaker of Rosemount; sisters, Nancy (Jim Kittelson) Raths of Wanamingo, LaRita (Jim) Brown of Red Wing, Cheryl (Merlin) Moreland of Dodge Center, Teresa (Larry) Lawson of Zumbrota, and Brenda (Jack) Harvey of Hager City, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Austin Larson; father, Robert "Red" Wallaker; father-in-law, James "Bud" McWaters; and a brother-in-law, Don Raths.
