Delores M. Simonsen

Delores M. Simonsen age 87 of Zumbrota passed away on March 27, 2018 at her home in Zumbrota surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Wayne Schoch officiating. Inurnment will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Delores Mae Torkelson was born on March 22, 1931 in Zumbrota, MN to Siguard and Myrtle (Skaar) Torkelson. Delores grew up on the farm in Wanamingo Township, attended country schools and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1951. She worked as a caregiver for Emily and John Simonsen. On September 15, 1956 she married Joyce H. Simonsen at Dale Lutheran Church. Together they farmed the Simonsen Family Farm until 1973 when they moved to a farm in Minneola Township. Delores worked at the Zumbrota Care Center and Maple Island Creamery and did domestic housekeeping.
Delores enjoyed dancing and piano, sewing and quilting, reading, gardening, photography, playing cards, feeding and watching the birds and spending time with her family. Delores was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
Delores is survived by her children, Donna (Mark) Huneke of Zumbrota, Betty (Micky) Nesseth of Wanamingo, Dale (Stephanie) Simonson of Goodhue and Amy Foster of Cannon Falls; grandchildren, Jason (Ryan Loftsgaarden) Huneke, Brooke (Kevin) Guanzini, Stephanie (Matthew) Green, Scott Huneke, Travis and Nicole Simonson and Ryan and Grace Foster; great-grandson, Harrison Guanzini; sister, Mary Tweite of Byron and many nieces and nephews,
Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Joyce and grandson, Anthony Schweich.
