Diane Marie Nordgaard, 79, of Red Wing, died Monday, October 2, 2017, at her home. She was born on November 18, 1937, in Decorah, Iowa to J.C. and Ina (Weselmann) Iverson. She graduated from Calmar High School in Calmar, Iowa in 1955 and from Luther College in Decorah with a degree in Education in 1959. One July 18, 1959, she was united in marriage to Jack Nordgaard at Calmar Lutheran Church. They lived in St. Paul and Ord, Nebraska for a number of years where she taught 8th grade. In 1968 they moved to Chicago and then to Palatine, Illinois where she taught from 1974 to 1998. She and Jack retired in 1998 and moved to Red Wing. She was a member of United Lutheran Church where she was active in the social concerns ministry along with other church groups and activities. She served on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity, volunteered at the Care Clinic and Red Wing Area Food Shelf and was active in the League of Women Voters. She loved gardening and enjoyed being involved with the arts.
Diane is survived by her husband, Jack; two sons, Michael (Jennifer) Nordgaard of Portland, Oregon and Timothy (Barbara) Nordgaard of Minnetonka; two grandchildren, Erik and Luke; two brothers, Thomas (Jeannie) Iverson of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Steve ( Kathy ) Iverson of Lake Mills, Iowa; one sister, Mary Jo ( Tom )Wilke of Monona, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Peter and two brothers, John and Sam.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017, at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing with the Reverends Paul Christenson and Karl Rydholm officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Decorah. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to Hope Coalition - Homeless or the Social Concerns Ministry at United Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
