Donald James Lafferty, 80, of Frontenac, died Friday, August 24, 2018, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Minneapolis. He was born on November 6, 1937, in Lake City to Donald and Dolores (Schuster) Lafferty. He graduated from Lake City High School. He married Geraldine Fitzgerald in 1958 and she preceded him in death. He served in the US Army for many years receiving the Purple Heart and several medals. He also drove truck for Groves-Kelco for a number of years, was a sales representative for Fairway Foods and worked for the City of Red Wing at the Incinerator. He was a lifetime member of the Burnson- Lillyblad VFW Post #1218 and the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54. He enjoyed fishing, cross country skiing, gardening and was an avid Vikings Fans.
He is survived by his four children, Donna Vining, Denise (Diane) Lafferty, Timothy Lafferty and Hope Mielke; 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; five siblings, Larry Lafferty, Rosemary (Neil) Boerboom, Kathleen Lafferty, Daniel (Deb) Lafferty and Raymond (Kathy) Lafferty and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife he is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Donald; one sister, Maxine Frazier and one brother, Michael Lafferty.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing.
