Dorothy E. Lohmann

Dorothy E. Lohmann age 88 of Zumbrota died on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Zumbrota Health Services. The funeral service will be on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Wayne Radke officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dorothy Elaine Safe was born on August 12, 1929 on the farm in Vasa Township, Goodhue County, MN to Minton and Lily (Pearson) Safe. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed at Vasa Lutheran Church. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1947 and St. John's School of Nursing in 1950. Dorothy worked at St. John's Hospital until 1952 when she moved to Colorado. She worked at Colorado General and was involved with a summer camp calling themselves the "Campfire Girls". In 1956 Dorothy moved back to the Vasa area to care for her ailing father and resumed her career at St. John's Hospital. She was united in marriage to Donald Lohmann on March 2, 1957 at Vasa Lutheran Church. Together they farmed and in 1970, Dorothy started working part-time as a nurse at the Zumbrota Nursing Home. Dorothy also began teaching a nursing assistant class in 1979. Dorothy was a member of St. John's Nurses Alumni, Bridge Club and an active member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church. Dorothy was a 4-H leader and she was an avid bowler, golfer and card player. Dorothy was proud of her Swedish heritage; she loved to cook and was known for her toasted butter pecan cake and her Christmas cookies. Dorothy was a hospice volunteer for over twenty years with Zumbrota Hospice and Fairview Red Wing Hospice. Dorothy was also known as being a second mom to many people and her love of Kit Kat candy bars and Dairy Queen chocolate malts.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Diane Lohmann of Cannon Falls, Dennis (JoMarie) Lohmann of Delano, and Dean Lohmann of Richfield; grandchildren, David (Jasmine) Banitt of Ft. Polk, LA, Derek (Jana) Banitt of LaCrescent, Sean Lohmann, currently attending Iowa State and Mollie Lohmann of Delano; great-grandchildren, Desmond and Tramyrah; and special friends, Mike Schug, Tammy Waade and Linda "Sam" and Bill Chaplin.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; sister, Mia Safe and brother, Donald Safe.
Memorials are suggested to United Redeemer Lutheran Church, Mayo Hospice or donor's choice.
Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
