Fern E. Ferber

September 7, 1925 — January 9, 2018

Fern E. Ferber age 92, of Pine Island died on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Hospital - Rochester, St. Marys Campus. The funeral service will be on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00A.M. at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Pastor Craig Breimhorst officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Fern Edith Mensing was born on September 7, 1925 in New Haven Township, Olmsted County, MN to Alwin and Minney (Luebke) Mensing. Fern grew up on the farm and attended Othello District #37 country school. On September 16, 1948 she married Arnold J. Ferber. Together they farmed until 1980 when they moved into Pine Island. Fern was a homemaker and worked in the cafeteria at Pine Island Public School for many years. Fern and Arnold hosted dinner on Christmas Day for the entire extended family and she continued the tradition as long as she could, well after Arnold's passing on November 13, 1997. Fern was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church and was active in the Women's Lydia Circle and quilting group. Fern enjoyed traveling, eating out and going for outings on the Pine Haven Care Center travel bus.
Fern is survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Sherrie Ferber of Mazeppa; nephews, Daniel Ferber of Byron, Dean Ferber of Byron, Duane (Amy) Ferber of New Richland and Dana Ferber of Berlin, Germany; niece, Lori Ferber of Plainview; great nephews, Jacob Ferber of Shanghai, China, Joey Ferber of Eureka, CA, Dalen Ferber of New Richland, Evan Ferber of New Richland, Kellen Ferber of Duluth, Mason Ferber of New Richland and Nolan Ferber of Dodge Center and great niece, Katherine Ferber of Minneapolis.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Minney and Alwin Mensing; baby sister, Ruth; husband, Arnold and brother-in-law, James Ferber.
Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island.
