Florence P. Alberts

September 27, 1924 — February 15, 2018

Florence P. Alberts age 93, of Pine Island passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Pine Haven Care Center, where she had resided for one week following a fall in her home on February 2. The funeral will be Monday, February 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Pine Island with Pastor Carolyn Westlake officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 - 6:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church
Florence Pearl Olson was born on September 27, 1924 in Millville, MN to Ole S. and Josephine B. (Wurst) Olson. Her family moved to Eyota when Florence was 6 years old. After graduating from Eyota High School in 1942, Florence attended secretarial training and worked for the St. Charles Bank, Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Rochester and was an usher for the Mayo Civic Auditorium.
In her young adult years Florence skated in ice shows with the Rochester Figure Skating Club.
On September 2, 1951 she married Kenneth G. Alberts in Eyota. They lived on the Alberts family farm in rural Pine Island and farmed in partnership with Kenneth's brother, Myron. Florence was involved in Extension Study groups in Dodge County and the United Methodist Church in Pine Island where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a 4-H parent volunteer in Dodge County, a member of the Pine Ears singing group and led singing at Pine Haven Care Center as a volunteer.
Florence and Kenneth served as Grand Marshals of the Pine Cheese Festival Parade in 2000.
Florence is survived by three sons, David (Madge), Duane (Marni) and Richard (Terry) all of Pine Island; daughter, Amy (Stan) Sauder of Pine Island; fourteen grandchildren; one step- grandchild; ten great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Pries of Eyota, Evelyn Curtin of Rochester and Marion Rogers of Rochester.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; parents, Ole and Josephine Olson and three brothers - in-law.
The family suggests memorials to Heartland Hospice Services, Pine Haven Care Center, or the United Methodist Church in Pine Island.
