George was born October 18, 1940 in Regina Saskatchewan Canada, to Glenn and Maggie (Walton) Ricabaugh. His family moved to Spring Valley, MN in 1947 where George attended Spring Valley Schools. In 1958 he began his lifelong career in the military, first in the Army and then as a Naval Aviator for the US Navy. During his time as an aviator he had the opportunity to fly the A1 Sky Raider as well as many other types of aircraft. He served off many carriers from 1966-1971, flying 79 missions over Vietnam. George loved to travel and his naval career gave him the opportunity to see many countries. He served his country proudly retiring after 30 plus years in 1991. After retirement he spent many years in San Antonio Texas and eventually came back to Minnesota. He had a great passion for learning and believed you could never know too much. His career took him away before he graduated high school so he went back to Spring Valley in 2011 and received his high school diploma. This was something he had always wanted even though he already had a Master's degree in Elementary Education, and a degree in Restaurant Management and Culinary Arts. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, camping and traveling. He loved shocking everyone with his bright shoes and crazy socks. He was a proud member of the VFW Post in Spring Valley and Zumbrota.
George is survived by his wife Karen; mother, Maggie Gragert of Spring Valley; sister, Eileen Ricabaugh Ruben (Simmons) of Phoenix AZ; daughter, Amy (Steve) Rountree of Frederick, MD., sons Jeffrey Ricabaugh of Lakehills, TX., George (Rita) Willmarth of Eagan, MN. and Peter (Monika) Mockler of Germany; grandchildren, Rylee Rountree, Daniella Mockler, Nick Willmarth and Casey Matter; niece Jennifer Fiedler of San Tan Valley, AZ., nephews, James Simmons, Gilbert, AZ. and Jon Simmons, Winslow, AZ.; great niece, Rachael Fiedler and great nephew, Devin Fiedler; step-children, Kevin (Susie) Nelson of Rochester, MN., Paula (Chris) Kilness of Ellsworth WI. and Teri (Wendell Manore) Nelson, Ellsworth, WI; step-grandchildren, Amy (Mike Hansmann) Nelson, Megan (Jared Novinska) Nelson, Adam Nelson, Amber (Luke Ristow) Maxwell, Logan Kilness and Taylor (Darren) Georgakas and his little buddy Pedee.
