Glen C. Vance

March 7, 1948 — May 30, 2020

Glen Clair Vance, 72, a life-long resident of Red Wing, died on Saturday, May 30, 2020 following a severe heart attack. Glen was born at St. John's Hospital in Red Wing on March 7, 1948 to Gretchen and Clair Vance. He was their fifth child - all born in Red Wing.
Glen is survived by two brothers - Vere Vance (with wife, Donna) in Fitchburg, Wisconsin and Dean Vance (with wife Sharon in Naperville, Illinois). He is also survived by three nephews - Vaughn, Eric and Justin Vance and one niece, Vicki Vance May.
Glen was preceded in death by his mother and father as well as two sisters Vicky Lynn Vance and Nancy Lynn Vance. Glen was one of the first patients in the United States to be diagnosed with Galactosemia, a rare disease of the pancreas that claimed the lives of his two infant sisters and was the cause of many of Glen's life-long health challenges. Glen will be buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing with his Father, Mother and Sisters.
For most of his adult life Glen lived in a Lutheran Social Services group home in Red Wing. Glen enjoyed working at the Red Wing Shoe Factory under a special government program. He was a frequent attendee at church and had many friends in the community. The family is grateful to the many community members and organizations that brought kindness and friendship into Glen's life.
A private family burial ceremony is planned. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Lutheran Social Services in support of the programs that so generously served Glen.
