James Leon Freeberg, 74, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at the Mayo Clinic Health System, Cannon Falls Hospital. He was born on August 11, 1945 in Red Wing to Aldor and Ida (Hanson) Freeberg. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1963. He farmed many years on the family farm in Vasa Township and also worked for Luhman Construction retiring in August 2011. He was a member of the Vasa Lutheran Church, Goodhue Lions Club and a local Coin Club. Jim loved people and had many friends. He enjoyed going for drives through the countryside, playing cards and watching auction shows. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life.
Jim is survived by his twin sisters, Katherine "Kay" Fiksen of Dodge Center and Jacqueline "Jay" (Paul) Mikaelsen, missionaries in Bolivia, South America; seven nieces and nephews, Theresa (Mitch) Bates, Jesse (Anne) Mikaelsen, Dallas (Danae) Mikaelsen, Christian Fiksen, Stephanie (Dan) Mehlhorn, Brad (Lisa) Fiksen and Serenity (Eric) Holeyfield along with many great nieces and nephews that he was very fond and proud of. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Vasa Lutheran Church with Reverend Maureen Hagen officiating. Burial will be at the Spring Garden Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
