James Gangl

James Gangl, 65, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at his home after a short battle with lung cancer. James was born on January 17, 1953, in Bismarck, North Dakota to Frank and Ann (Nee) Leingang. James's childhood was spent on a farm in Morton County. In 1966 James moved to Wilton ND and graduated from Wilton High school in 1971. After high school he attended Minot State College where he received a degree in Law Enforcement. He used that degree to obtain a position as a police officer with the Minot Police Department for two years. He continued his career in law enforcement with the North Dakota Highway Patrol. After three years with the patrol, he moved to Bismarck and was sworn in as a Police Officer with the Bismarck Police Department. Due to an on duty injury James had to retire after serving 10 years with the BPD in 1989. James returned to college and graduated from the University of Mary where he received his BS degree in business. A job opportunity arose at Treasure Island Resort and Casino in Red Wing, MN. James spent the next 27 years with TIRC as a Security Supervisor until the time of his death.
James is survived by his son Stephen (Sarah) of Tacoma, Washington; daughter, Natalie Price of Des Moines, Iowa from his first marriage with Karen Stubert which dissolved in 1992.
James married Susan Olson on Valentine's Day in 1994. James inherited a whole new family with this union. He is survived by his loving wife Susan, stepdaughter Shelly (Bruce) Milton of Milaca, MN, and stepson, Michael (Brenda) Olson of Lakeville, MN. Added to this are numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. James is also survived by his siblings, Sharon (Frank) Kuntz of Mandan North Dakota, Kenneth (Linda) Gangl of Mandan, North Dakota and Jeanette Pohlman (fiancée Norman Fisher) of Bismarck North Dakota. James's passions were pheasant hunting prior to injuring his knee, 40 plus years of motorcycling. In 2001 Jim and Sue discovered their passion for cruising and had taken many cruises since then.
A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2018 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, 602 Plum St. in Red Wing with Chaplain Debby Bradley officiating. A time of fellowship and luncheon will be served following the service. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16 at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service.
