Janice Berniece Stinson

January 2, 1942 — March 27, 2018

Janice B. Stinson, age 76, of Rochester, died Tuesday March 27, 2018 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona. Janice Berniece Petry was born Jan. 2, 1942 in Minneapolis to James and Berniece (Brazil) Petry. She was baptized on Feb. 11, 1942 and confirmed Nov 3, 1957 at Bethel Lutheran Church, raised in Minneapolis and graduated from South High School in 1960. Janice attended Waldorf College in Forest City, IA where she received her Associate Degree. On Sept. 28, 1963 she married Lyle W. Stinson in Minneapolis. The couple purchased a farm near Cresco, IA and they farmed until 1968 when they moved to Byron, MN. Janice was a Nursing Assistant at the Mayo Clinic for ten years. In 1987 the couple relocated to Rochester and Janice served as secretary in the family business, Stinson Construction/Barrier Free Access Inc., until her retirement in 2007. Jan and Lyle enjoyed traveling and wintering in Mesa for many years. Janice was very active at her church, Christ Lutheran Church of Byron, where she was involved in the Ladies Group, Bible Study, various committees, and was a longtime Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed spending time up north at the cabin, camping, scrap booking, sewing, crafts, baking, and most of all being with her family.

Survivors include her husband Lyle, her daughter Cindy (Matthew) Paquin, and her son Mark (Cheryl) Stinson, both of Byron, five grandchildren Philip Gilbertson, Alyssa Stinson, Katie (Dane) Austin, Nathan Gilbertson, Caleb Stinson, and her brother Richard (Pam) Petry of South Carolina. Her parents preceded her in death.

The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 7, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church (CLC) in Byron with Pastors Steve Rheingans and Nirmala Reinschmidt officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel, and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the Byron Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the CLC Fellowship Hall Renovation Fund.
