Jean Jilk

September 16, 1955 — July 28, 2019

Jean (McGrath) Jilk, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 28, 2019. She was born on September 16, 1955 in Hastings to Mathew and Virginia (Thome) McGrath. She attended Guardian Angels Catholic School, where she perfected her penmanship talent. After graduating from Hastings High School, Jean worked at the State Training School in Red Wing for several years and had her son, Dusty, who she adored, in 1988. She later accepted a position working at Prairie Island Nuclear Plant, where she made many dear friends, and unbeknownst to her worked for several years in the same building as the love of her life, Joe Jilk. The two were united in marriage on June 27, 2012 in Black Hills, South Dakota.

Jean had an affinity for horses, classic cars, jewelry, and fashion. She loved her dogs and enjoyed spending time at her cabin on Turtle Lake. She also loved to cook, work in her gardens, admire the birds, and shop online, but nothing brought her more joy than giving to others. Jean had fond memories of growing up on the farm and often said she had the best childhood ever. She will be remembered for her generosity and her fun, laidback demeanor.

She is survived by her loving son, Dusty and his fiancé Makayla; two grandchildren, Sophia and Sawyer, siblings, Cindy (Bruce) Manovich, Kevin (Roxann) McGrath, Joyce (Terry) Siepelmeyer, Tim (Cat) McGrath, and Terry (Brenda) McGrath; ten nieces and nephews; ten great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Virginia McGrath; sister, Teresa McGrath; and husband, Joe Jilk.
