Jerry Borgen

February 19, 1929 — July 11, 2018

David "Jerry" Jerome Borgen, 89, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at his home at Potter Ridge surrounded by his family. He was born February 19, 1929 in Red Wing to Harry "Bubby" and Mae (Andersen) Borgen. He was a 1947 graduate of Red Wing Central High School and went on to attend Winona Teachers College, MN School of Business and U of MN before enlisting in the US Air Force. After his honorable discharge, he was united in marriage to Patricia Kolberg on June 27, 1953. Throughout his life, Jerry worked mainly in advertising and marketing at the Republican Eagle, NSP and Goodhue County National Bank. He never really retired and on any given day could be found working on his current fundraising task for one of his civic organizations or groups he belonged to. He was a man about town and knew everyone. The title of "Mr. Red Wing" couldn't have been more fitting.
Some of his accomplishments, undertakings and involvements include: charter member and president of the RW Rotary Club, member of RW Elks Lodge BPOE #845 and past exalted ruler, United Way Board, Queen Bee's Committee, Amateur Baseball Association, YMCA trustee and board member; Downtown Council; Scout Master; Red Wing Area Seniors; All Class Reunion for RWCHS; SOAR committee; Aurora Ski Club & Friends of American Ski Jumpers; River City Days Festivities and RW Chamber Ambassador. He was given the 2002 RW Kiwanis Good Neighbor Award, the NSP Citizen of the Year Award and was inducted into the Ski Jumping Hall of Fame and Red Wing High School Wall of Honor. Jerry loved his community and his involvement in it proved it. There were two other things Jerry truly loved, one being golf--he could always find a tee-time, and the other being his family. More than anything his family was number one. Pat was the love of his life, and together they celebrated 65 years. They were blessed with 4 children and 8 grandchildren. He cherished the moments watching his grandchildren grow and was very proud of their accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife, Pat of Red Wing; son, David (Gina) Borgen of Red Wing; daughters, Deb (Mitch) Lawrence of Red Wing; Dawn (Todd) Quist of Hastings and Diane (Keith) Torbenson of Northfield; grandchildren, D.J. and Tanner Borgen, Allison and Morgan Quist and Emily and Ryan Torbenson and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his precious granddaughters, Briana and Katie Sue Klindworth and his brother, Tom Borgen.
