Joan R. Mohlke

January 5, 1929 — February 2, 2019

With profound sadness the family of Joan Ruth Mohlke announces her passing after a brief illness with congestive heart failure, on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at the age of 90. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her children, John (Lynn Alberts), Pamela (Craig) Evans, Carmen (Myles) Keller, Paul (Doug) and Bill (Jean Peterson). Joan will also be fondly remembered by her seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Natasha, Jeff, Jennifer, Justin, Grant and Allison; 13 great-grandchildren and her sister, Myra Reuter.
Joan was born on January 5, 1929, in Pine Island to John and Sarah Holliday. Joan attended West Concord High School and Pine Island High School. She met Harold Mohlke in December 1949. They were married on October 22, 1951, at the First Baptist Church in Rochester and were blessed with three sons and two daughters.
Joan was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. Joan was always very honest and a straight shooter. She wore her heart on her sleeve, and you always knew what she was thinking. A lovely woman with a strong sense of conviction, seasoned with sincerity. She led by example. There was never a job too large or too small that she would not tackle. Joan was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. We will miss her every day.
She loved to cook, kept an immaculate house and was highly skilled with artistic crafts. She enjoyed retail therapy at Sally's Boutique (aka Salvation Army), bargain shopping, mowing her lawn (diagonal pattern), baking, canning and spoiling her adorable rescue kitty and companion, Kiki Dee. Her favorite adventures included Wisconsin Dells vacations, Sunday-afternoon road tours to Nelson Cheese Factory for maple nut ice cream cones and House of Coates for Swanee burgers, and excursions up North.
Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her children strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our heart.
As an esteemed leader of Holiday Inn Corporation, she played a major role in many significant awards of excellence and leadership from the University in Memphis, Tennessee and took great pride in her work. She coached and mentored the younger generation as a devoted Cub Scout leader and Sunday school teacher. Joan attended Calvary Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Betty Jonas. Her son Bill Mohlke lovingly cared for her in the last few months of her life. The family gives him and everyone else who cared for Joan their greatest and warmest gratitude.
The memorial service for Joan will be at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at Larson Chapel, 1475 Jefferson Dr., Zumbrota, Minnesota, with Pete Wyttenbach officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the chapel. Interment will follow in the family plot at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester.
