Joel Carter Stoehr

Joel C. Stoehr, age 74, of Rochester, died Friday July 7, 2017 at Cottagewood Senior Community in Rochester.

Joel Carter Stoehr was born Dec. 25, 1942 in Chicago, IL to Edward and Verlaine (Zweifel) Stoehr. He lived in Illinois and Wisconsin before moving to Minnesota. Joel graduated from High School in Minnetonka, then attended the University of Minnesota and St. Cloud State University. On Aug. 31, 1966 he married June Kloth in Chaska, MN. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1966 and served on the USS Coral Sea before his discharge in 1970. Joel then attended San Francisco State University where he received his BA in Drama, and his Masters of Art in Drama. He taught at various Colleges and Universities. The couple lived in Massachusetts from 1977 to 1983, where their two children were born. They then moved to Rochester, where Joel was the designer at the Rochester Civic Theater, Masque Youth Theatre, and many other theaters, as well as a teacher of Art and Theater at RCTC. He retired to become a full time Artist. Joel enjoyed Mark Twain, movies, Jazz, Opera, and the Theater.

Survivors include his wife June of Rochester; his daughter Rachel (Joseph) Sweet of Burnsville, MN; his son Aaron (Olivia St. Martin) Stoehr of Minneapolis; grandchildren Arnold and Vivian Sweet of Burnsville; sisters Melinda (Denny) Niccum of Lester Prairie, MN; and Beth (Chris) Fischer of Shakopee, MN; brothers Todd (Carolyn) Stoehr of Clarksville, TN; Kurt (Kristin) Stoehr of Hamilton, MT; Mark (Kathleen) Stoehr of Minneapolis, MN; and Erik Stoehr of New Hope, MN. Joel was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to the National Parkinson Foundation.
