John L. Meincke

John Meincke, 82, of Elgin, formerly on Lake City, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, in Elgin. John was born April 3, 1936, in Red Wing, to Harry and Florence (Stehr) Meincke and graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City in 1955. After graduating, he attended the University of Minnesota Agricultural Program. He served in the US Army for two years. He then farmed in Mount Pleasant Township in Wabasha County with his father and brother until his father died. John and his brother continued farming until 2006, when they sold the farm. Shortly after his brother, Fritz passed away, John moved to Elgin. He enjoyed planting and caring for his vegetable garden and spending time with his family and friends.
John is survived by many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Fredrick Meincke.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with Reverend Nathan Cordes officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be one hour before the services at the church. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church.
