Jon A. Stehr

January 18, 1962 — January 18, 2018

Jon A. Stehr age 56 of Zumbrota died in his sleep on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jon Andrew Stehr was born on January 18, 1962 in Red Wing, MN to Richard and Elizabeth (Buol) Stehr. Jon grew up on his great grandfather Stehr's farm in rural Zumbrota. Jon attended Zumbrota Schools and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1980. He continued his education by taking two years of Farm Classes at the Red Wing Vocational Technical Institute. Both before and after his graduation, Jon worked on the family farm.
Jon was baptized on Pentecost Sunday in 1986 at Holden Lutheran Church. On June 21, 1986 he married Marlis Jean Vangsness at Holden Lutheran Church.
They made their home on the Stehr family farm and three children were born to them; Grady, Flinton and Nikki Stehr. Jon was extremely proud of his children and he loved watching them grow and learning how to farm with his John Deere machinery. As the children got a little older Jon pursued his dream of driving semi. Jon's classmate and neighbor made his dream come true and Jon drove for Mike Lohmann for many years.
Jon met a lot of people and he loved being in on the conversation, although he was known more for listening than talking.
Jon is survived by his wife, Marlis; son, Grady (Fiancée Sarah) Stehr of St. Paul and Zumbrota, son, Flinton Stehr and daughter, Nikki Stehr, both at home in Zumbrota; parents Richard and Elizabeth Stehr of Zumbrota; sisters, Sonia (Mary Goplen) Stehr of Zumbrota, Cathy (Lon Brown) Peterson of Bourbonnais, IL and Amy (Forrest) Schutz of Zumbrota; many aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the family. Jon's family hopes they didn't forget anyone.
In keeping with Jon's wishes, he will be cremated and no visitation or service will be held.
Local arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
