Judy Ann Kolling

Judy Kolling, 74, of Zumbrota, formerly of Chatfield, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Hospital - Rochester, St. Mary's Campus.



Judy Ann Ness was born Nov. 24, 1944 in New London, CT to Paul and Marcella (Anderson) Ness. She moved as a young child to the family farm in rural Spring Valley, MN, where she was raised. She attended Washington Country School and Spring Valley Schools, graduating in 1962. Following high school Judy attended Gustavus Adolphus College, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Education. She married William "Bill" Kolling on Jan. 29, 1966 in Spring Valley. The couple lived briefly in the Twin Cities before moving to Chatfield, where they raised their family. In 1998 Bill and Judy relocated to Zumbrota and built their dream house. Judy worked in accounting-related roles for several companies, including the Minneapolis Rehabilitation Center, Metafile Information Systems and Strongwell. Later in her career Judy worked for the Mayo Clinic, and retired from SCS Elevator Products of Red Wing in 2011.



Judy was an active member of Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, was a former long-time member of Chatfield Lutheran Church, and served on the Chatfield Board of Education for several years. In her free time Judy loved to cook, bake, garden, and attend theatrical productions. She and Bill enjoyed their children's and grandchildren's recitals, sporting events, concerts, and graduations. They were also frequent travelers, visiting all 50 states and 18 countries. Over the last 25 years, Judy developed a passion for quilting, ultimately making over 100 quilts plus other quilted decor. She was happy to gift others with a special quilt, as well as teach the art of quilt-making to her family.

Survivors include her husband Bill, sons Brian (Darlene) of Greenfield, MN; and Bruce (Kimberly) of Birmingham, AL; four grandchildren Adam (Taylor), Sarah, Tyler, and Olivia; sisters Pam (Dennis) Bader of Denver, IA; and LuAnn Mensink (Mark Rose) of Spring Valley; brother Randy (Penny) Ness of Spring Valley, and sister-in-law Deb Hawkins (Gary Jones) of Kasson, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Rodney Ness.

The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 1 at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester with Pastor Vern Christopherson officiating. Inurnment will be in the Church Columbarium. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 30 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel, and one hour before the service at the church.
