Karmon Dee Schmitt, 56, of Red Wing, died Friday, June 1, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on December 10, 1961, in Zumbrota to Kenneth and DeeAnn (Sanneman) Sommerfield. She graduated from Mazeppa High School in 1980 and in 1984 from Mankato State University with an accounting degree. In 2011, she received her master's degree in Information Management. For one year she worked for the US Department of Agriculture and then for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Eagan. On May 2, 1987, she was married to Greg Schmitt in Mazeppa. They lived in Eagan moving to Zumbrota in 1997. They later divorced. For a number of years she worked for Mayo Clinic in Rochester and then worked as a health care industry consultant for Teradata up until her death. In 2008, she moved to Lakeville where she became engaged to Greg Sotebeer and since 2016, they have resided in Wacouta township near Red Wing. She was a member of the MNCPA and enjoyed traveling to warm climates, cooking, boating, flying with her fiancé, and most importantly being with family and friends.
Karmon is survived by her daughter, Kersten of Zumbrota; her fiancé, Greg Sotebeer of Red Wing; her mother, DeeAnn Sommerfield of Mazeppa; two brothers, Ken, Jr. (Rhonda) Sommerfield of Zumbrota and Paul (Amy) Sommerfield of Waterville; one sister, Susan (Joe) Krzmarzick of Mankato; many nieces and nephews and Max the cat. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth; her grandparents Henry and Matilda Sommerfield, Henry and Rose Sanneman; and Scruffy the cat.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2018, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa with Pastor Alan Horn officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
