Kenneth S. Sigrist

April 22, 1921 — July 21, 2017

Kenneth S. Sigrist age 96, of Byron passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Pine Island United Methodist Church with Pastor Beth Perez officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery with military honors by Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Kenneth Stanley Sigrist was born on April 22, 1921 n Milton Township, Dodge County, MN to Gottlieb and Edith (nee Hart) Sigrist. He grew up on the farm, attended country schools and helped his parents on the farm. As a young adult, Kenneth worked for neighboring farmers and owned a milk hauling route. Kenneth sold his milk route when he entered the U. S. Army Air Corp on September 16, 1942. He served as an aircraft mechanic with the 494th Fighter Squadron in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II and was honorably discharged on September 11, 1945. Kenneth returned to the farm in rural Pine Island, bought his milk route back and helped his parent's farm. Later he co-owned Sigrist Garage in Pine Island with his brother, Jake. On August 11, 1957 he married Lennis Rauenhorst at Niagara Cave Chapel near Harmony. They took over the Sigrist Family Farm from his parents and lived and farmed there until for 42 years. In 1999 they moved to Byron.
Kenneth was a member of Byron United Methodist Church and Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184.
Kenneth enjoyed fishing, playing cards and dominoes, going out to lunch and spending time with his grandchildren.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lennis; children, Rev. Deanna (Rev. Mark) Woodward of Preston and Bryan (Kris) Sigrist of Mantorville; grandchildren, Laura (John) Riess, Amy (Wilson) Cahill, Tony (Erin) Sigrist, Michael, Nicholas, Matthew and Rachel Sigrist; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Molly Reiss and many nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Gottlieb and Edith, brothers, Caryl, Jake and Allen and sisters, Elizabeth, Catherine, Marilyn, Eleanor, Inda and Clarice. Memorials are preferred to Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 or Seasons Hospice.
