Lecil W. Whipple

Lecil W. Whipple, age 90 of Mazeppa died on Monday, October 22, 2018 at the Pine Haven Care Center. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Zumbro Community Church 58324 County Road 7 in rural Mazeppa with Pastor Dave Mohler officiating. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant Prairie Dale Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Lecil Wayne Whipple was born on April 3, 1928 in Zumbro Township, Wabasha County, MN to Wallace and Mary (Parkinson) Whipple. Lecil grew up on the farm and attended Mazeppa Schools. On July 12, 1950 he married Doris P. Schultz in Rochester. They lived in several communities before settling on a farm in rural Mazeppa in 1968. They lived there for thirty one years before Doris died in a house fire on January 21, 1999. Lecil continued to live on the farm until March of 2018 when he entered the care center. Lecil worked for twenty years at Dough Boy Turkey Hatchery in Rochester, for Arnold's Supply at the IBM Campus in Rochester and helping his brother, Floyd maintain apartment buildings and retired at the age of seventy. Lecil enjoyed fishing, but was happiest taking care of the animals and putzing around on his hobby farm.
Lecil is survived by his sons, Gene (Sherry) Whipple of Isle, MN and Rich (Joan) Whipple of LeRoy, MN; daughter, Julie Hafner of Brockton, NY; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Allen (Jen) Whipple of Zumbro Falls, MN; sister, Lela Rietmann of Rochester, MN and special friend, Cyrella Abott of Pine Island, MN.
Lecil was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; son, Dale; six brothers and three sisters.
