Margaret I. Hinz

September 25, 1924 — July 18, 2019

Margaret I. Hinz, age 94 of Zumbrota died on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at the Pine Haven Care Center. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Wayne D. Schoch officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Margaret Ida Stubstad was born on September 25, 1924 in Rochester, MN to Martin and Ida (Olson) Stubstad. Margaret's mother died when she was four years old and she was raised by her father, Martin and step-mother, Mary Stubstad. Margaret grew up in Zumbrota and graduated Zumbrota High School in 1942. She attended St. Olaf College for one year and the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis for one year. On May 17, 1947 Margaret married Earl Hinz. They made their home in Zumbrota and Margaret worked as a Laboratory and X Ray Technician for ten years at the Zumbrota Hospital. Margaret filled in at hospitals in Cannon Falls, Red Wing and Rochester. Margaret worked for twenty eight years in Dr. James Halvorson's medical office in Zumbrota. After retiring, Margaret and her sister-in-law, Barb Hinz made and baked pies for KP'S Restaurant in Zumbrota for ten years.
Margaret was a member of Stary-Yerka VFW Post #5727 Auxiliary and Christ Lutheran Church.
Margaret enjoyed playing cribbage, traveling, baking, cooking, bird feeding and watching and spending time with her family.
Margaret is survived by her children, Pennie (Robert) Christianson of Red Wing, Donald (Vicki) Hinz of Zumbrota and Mark (Jeanie) Hinz of Prescott, AZ; grandchildren, Kelly Estabrooks, Chad Estabrooks, Jill Diesing, Amy Frederixon, Jason Hinz and Sarah Camu; great-grandchildren, Abby, Charlie and Emily Estabrooks, Brittany Estabrooks, Alexis, Braydon and Trevor Diesing, Tucker, Sydney and Brantley Frederixon, Braylynn Hinz, Kai and Bodhi Camu and half-sister, Eldri (Robert) Paulk of Beech Grove, TN
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; infant daughter; parents Ida and Martin Stubstad and step-mother, Mary Stubstad.
