Marlene J Freeman

Marlene Janis Freeman, 73, of Red Wing, formerly of St. Paul, died Wednesday, May 20, 2020 in her home. She was born April 11, 1947 in Austin, Minnesota to Orville and Lorina Reierson. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1965. After high school she was married and had two children. In 1977 she moved to Minneapolis and started college at Metropolitan Community College. She graduated with a degree in chemical dependency counseling. She worked various office jobs before becoming a home health care and hospice aid. She retired in 2001 after a car accident.
She was a proud feminist and warrior for human rights. She never shied away from political debate. She marched for women's rights in the 70's and later for native rights. She was Wiccan and enjoyed teaching classes on paganism. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping and relaxing with her cat, Tweets. She loved to dance and listen to music. She had many great friends and she appreciated the relationships she had with each of them. Most of all, Marlene adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Mitchell (Laura) Freeman of Zimmerman, Minnesota; daughter, Kristin (Denval Atkinson) Freeman of Red Wing; grandchildren, Darrein (Ashleigh) Bailey of Red Wing, Josephine (Jef) Hildreth of Welch, Jessica (Max Siragusa) Freeman of Colorado Springs; and Joshua Freeman of Zimmerman, Minnesota, Angel Hildreth of Hawaii; great-grandchildren, Nizhoo Mani Ga Bailey, Jeffrey Hildreth, Jr. and a princess Hildreth on the way; one sister, Gloria Rynerson of Minnetonka; nieces and nephew; Jody Ahrendt, Brad (Cheryl) Rynerson, Wanda (Pierce) Smith and Wendy (Casey) Tompkins.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
