Marlow R. McGowan

Marlow Robert McGowan of Pine Island, age 81, died on July 18, 2019 following a courageous battle with cancer.
The funeral service will be on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Pastor Nancy Toensing officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marlow was born September 28, 1937 in Owatonna, son of Adwell and Hildegarde (Glock) McGowan. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1955 and attended Valparaiso University Indiana followed by surveyor training in Arden Hills. Marlow married Ilene Bennett and raised three children in Owatonna. He began his Land Surveying career with the MN Department of Transportation in 1957, retiring as Head Land Surveyor in 1994. He was an active member of the MN Society of Professional Surveyors and served several years on the board of directors for the National Society of Professional Surveyors. Marlow and Barb spent many years traveling throughout the United States so he could fulfill these duties. He was honored as MN Surveyor of the Year in 2003.
In February 29, 1992 Marlow married Barbara (Ward) and settled in Pine Island. Marlow was an active member and financial officer for Saint Paul Lutheran Church. He was the assistant financial officer for many years with the Charles Cowden American Legion Post 184. Marlow was an avid sports fan and loved watching any and all sports and working on the daily crossword puzzle. He enjoyed golfing and once even had a hole in one at the Pine Island Golf Course. Marlow and Barb spent the last 16 years wintering in Bullhead City, Arizona where he enjoyed a little gambling and associating with friends from across the United States and Canada.
Survived by his wife Barbara, children Dan McGowan, Cindy (Scott) Butterfield, Patrick McGowan, step-daughters Lorri (Scott) Rennie and Patricia Walk; grandchildren, Chris and Mike Aamot, Alyssa Leidall, Victoria McGowan, Carol David, Cathy Jones, Alex and Cory Walk; great grandchildren, Olivia and Lucas David and sister, Neoma McGowan.
