Marlys ‘Molly' A. Bird age 82, of Wanamingo, died on April 21, 2019 at the Minneapolis Veterans Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 11:00 am at Mahn Family Funeral Home- Larson Chapel in Zumbrota with Pastor Christopher Culuris officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday for one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Zumbrota cemetery.
Marlys Annette Christiansen was born on June 12, 1936 to Leonard and Lydia (Rueker) Christiansen in St. Paul. She was raised in St. Paul and graduated from Murray High School in 1954. Molly continued her education at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities achieving her degree as a dental hygienist. On December 20, 1958 she married Robert Bird at Como Park Lutheran in St. Paul. They purchased a farm and moved to Wanamingo in the late 60s. Together they ran the farm and raised seven children. Molly also worked as a dental hygienist in Wanamingo, Zumbrota and Red Wing during her career before retiring in the early 90s. Molly became a resident of the Minneapolis Veterans Home in December 2008.
Molly enjoyed gardening, traveling, swimming, sewing projects, crafts and spending time with family.
Molly is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert ‘Bob' Bird of Lake Elmo; seven children, Robert ‘Bob' Bird of Mazeppa, Sally Bird of Shakopee, Sandy (John) Konstandinou of Cottage Grove, Matt Bird of Plano, TX, Donna (Jeff) Koehler of Rochester, Tom Bird of Memphis, TN, and Cheryl (Kurt) Lee of Marine on St. Croix; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Molly was preceded in death by her brothers, Ronald and Harold Christiansen; and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association - 3224 6th Ave NE Ste A, Rochester, MN 55906.
