Mary Jane Wells-Godfrey, "Oyate Cante Waonsida Win" (Woman with Good Heart and Compassion for People), 75, of Welch, died on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing.
Mary Jane was born in Red Wing on June 25, 1942, to George and Cecelia (Johnson) Wells. After attending schools in the area, Mary Jane worked at Smead's in Hastings, followed by employment at the training school. She was a counselor at the Funky Furnace Recreation Center until its closure. In 1982, Mary Jane began working at Little Six Bingo Palace in Shakopee. She was a member of the Tribal Council for many years, and enjoyed watching professional wrestling, the New York Yankees, baseball, and BINGO. Mary Jane had a vast love for the four-legged, including cows and her dogs. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was always generous and caring for others. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Mary Jane is survived by her brothers, Howard (Gail) Wells and John (Marti) Wells; niece, Leah (Eric) Johnson; nephews, Mitchell (Calli) Wells and Andrew (Alyssa) Wells; many adopted relatives, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, Godchildren and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Christian David Wells; brother, Christopher Wells; and many aunts, uncles, and other loved ones.
A funeral service for Mary Jane will be at 1PM on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at the Prairie Island Community Center with Art Owens, Ray Owens and Father Tristan English presiding. Family and friends are invited for visitation beginning at 4 PM on Monday, September 11th, with prayer services at 7 PM on both Monday and Tuesday at the community center.
