Matthew Henry Bremer, 37, died Thursday, November 14, peacefully in his sleep from a previously undiagnosed heart issue. He was born in Red Wing on December 30, 1981, to Lyle and BeNita (Hove) Bremer.
Matthew graduated from Red Wing High School in 2000. He joined the military while still in high school and was proud to serve his country as a career member of the United States Army. His military career included many awards, medals and certificates. He served in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
He married and they had four children. While he later divorced, he remained a devoted father.
He had enjoyed hiking, jet skiing, off-road four-wheeling. He also was an avid fisherman, a gourmet cook and rock collector. He was extraordinarily thoughtful and kind - just last winter he gave away his new coat to someone who needed one.
He is survived by his four children, Emily, Caitlyn, Mark, and Mary Bremer; his mother, BeNita (Greg) Hove-Domke of Red Wing; two sisters, Beth (Nick) Duffing of Red Wing and Alicia (Walter) Schuck of Ellsworth; one brother, Gregory Domke of Gary, Indiana; four nieces and nephews, Joshua, Sophie, Abby, Jacob, and one more due in December. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2019, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday November 21, 2019, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday.
