Merlyn V. Hadler

June 30, 1930 — October 27, 2017

Merlyn V. Hadler, age 87 of Zumbrota passed away on Friday evening, October27, 2017 at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island. The funeral service will be on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue with Pastor Martin Weigand officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Merlyn Vernie Hadler was born on March 30, 1930 on the family farm in Zumbrota Township, Goodhue County, MN to Vernie and Edna (Peters) Hadler. He grew up on the farm and attended country school. Merlyn started dairy farming with his parents. On January 24, 1953 he married Betty Myran in the Grace Lutheran Church Parsonage in rural Goodhue. They made their home on the Hadler family farm. Merlyn continued to farm until an injury forced him to sell his cows in 1988. Merlyn continued to run the land for several years and he kept several horses on the property for his cousin. Besides farming Merlyn drove milk truck for Gerald Jackson for several years, sold seed corn and worked for Furst-McNess Co.
Merlyn was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder for many years, Treasurer and also served on the cemetery board. Merlyn enjoyed farming, tending to his animals, taking care of the horses, putzing with and driving his tractors and socializing with neighbors, friends and family.
Merlyn is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Veronica "Roni" (Dave) Groth of Pine Island, Corinne (Bryan) Schacht of Rochester, Wendy (Bryan Marshman) Hadler-Granrud of Rochester, Marilyn Windhorst of Zumbrota, Kari (Mark Molenaar) Hadler of Renville, and Jon (Janice) Hadler of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer Nelson) Groth, Lindsey Granrud, Baron Windhorst, Karley Johnson, Ashley Johnson, Jaxton Molenaar, Adriana Molenaar and Juliana Martinez; great grandchildren, Greyson Schueler and Jayda Schueler.
Merlyn was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Vernie.
