Michael "Mikey" Kehren

December 13, 1957 — July 4, 2016

Michael" Mikey" Joseph Kehren, age 58 of Goodhue passed away unexpectedly in a tragic accident on July 4th surrounded by his friends celebrating his favorite holiday. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Goodhue High School Gymnasium. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Goodhue. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 3:00 - 8:00 PM at the Goodhue Fire Department building and on Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the school.

Mike was born on December 13, 1957 in Lake City, MN. He was one of ten children born to Bernard and Rebecca Faye Kehren. He grew up on the family farm in Belvidere. He was baptized and confirmed in his Christian Faith at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where he also attended grade school. He graduated from Goodhue High School in 1976, he then attended Red Wing Vocational Technical College where he achieved a degree in machining and welding, he then furthered his education with a degree in management. Mike started his family when he married Rinda Costello in 1987 and had three boys, then later divorced. Mike was a devoted father raising his boys in Goodhue, MN.

In Mike's early years, he worked at St. John's Hospital, Larsen Industries, and Meyer Industry. He spent most of his adult career working at MacTech and DL Ricci. Mike was a dedicated employee for many years and loved what he did.

Mike was passionate about living life to the fullest with no regrets. He started on the Goodhue Fire Department as a rookie and worked his way up to being the current Fire Chief which he held for the past eight years, with a total of twenty-three years of service. Mike was currently the President of the Goodhue County Fire Chiefs Association.

Mike volunteered much of his time back to his community. He served on the school board at Goodhue Schools and was a member of Goodhue Lions Club. Mike had served on the Church Council and School Board at St. John's Lutheran Church and was past chairman of the Goodhue-Bellechester Rail Riders.

Mike was truly a jack of all trades. When he found some spare time he enjoyed watching the Vikings, camping, playing bean bags and cards, gardening, riding his motorcycle, snowmobiling, and four wheeling. Mike truly loved spending time with family and friends and his soulmate Brenda. One of Mike's favorite past times was seeing how high he could stack his wood pile. He was sure to make any occasion a good time; guaranteed to make all laugh. Mike was a very loving and giving man and had a personality to be matched by no one.

Mike is survived by his three sons, Skyler, Quinlan (Jenna Kyllo) and Treyben; soulmate, Brenda Hovel; his siblings, Rozanna Stockman, Marilyn (Gene) Strusz, Virginia (Randy) Thorne, Marty (Barb) Kehren, Irene (Robert) Rehmer, Hannah (Mark) Jabs, Alice (Andrew) Helming, Dorothy (Mike) Lodermeier and Milt (Jamie) Kehren; forty nieces and nephews and thirty-seven great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Faye Kehren; nephew, Lance Kehren; and brother-in-law, Richard Stockman.
